The estate offers much more than fishing: the scenic beauty of the area will inspire any artist or photographer and there are many interesting walks to suit all levels of fitness and ability. The beautiful Cassley falls are only a gentle ten minute walk away and offer a spectacular experience when the river is in spate. Much of the Glen has remained unchanged and unspoilt over the centuries, traces of the original Scottish pine forests can still be seen.

The whole area abounds with wildlife. Sightings are regularly made of golden eagles (pictured), ospreys, peregrine falcons, buzzards and the even more common but elusive cuckoo. The estate is home to a pair of otters and the more observant may see their footprints in the wet sand of the riverbank or their spraint on a favoured tussock or stone. The lucky may even spot one fishing through the day.

As a centre for touring the Highlands, Glenrossal is particularly well suited. The short drive to Ullapool (around 45 minutes) takes you through breathtaking scenery to the west coast and an ideal place to sample the fine local seafood before continuing your exploration of the beauty of places like Lochinver or the Summer Isles.

The short trip to the east coast offers Dornoch, Brora and Golspie, places with the history of the Highlands indelibly stamped on their character. Walk the golden dunes of Dornoch that run the length of the Royal Dornoch Golf Club or visit the fascinating Dunrobin Castle near Golspie, ancestral home of the Dukes of Sutherland, or explore the famous River Brora which runs to the sea through the ancient fishing port of the same name.

Golfers are sure of a particular treat with Royal Dornoch only 25 miles away. This championship links course offers two excellent 18 hole courses while Golspie, Tain and Brora each offer 18 holes of quality links golf. Only 15 miles from the estate, Bonar Bridge has a charming and challenging 9 hole course which will test the most accurate of players. The beautiful 18-hole Fortrose and Rosemarkie course is often decribed as course designer James Braid’s, “jewel” and means the drive of only an hour to the Black Isle is a must.
